A brand-new East of England Co-op Food store in East Bergholt has opened today (Thursday 31 July).
Located in the new Hills Residential housing development, the store replaces the former site on The Street. All colleagues from the previous store have transferred to the new site, which now offers a modern and spacious environment for both customers and colleagues.
The new Food store includes popular services such as hot food, Barista Bar Coffee, Tango Ice Blast, Fwip ice cream and freshly squeezed orange juice from iSqueeze. Ample on-site parking adds to the convenience for customers.
The Post Office has also relocated to the new store and will benefit from extended opening hours.
Importantly, the store brings a boost to local employment, with over 40 colleagues working at the site, including 12 new team members recruited from East Bergholt.
Andy Rigby, Chief Executive Officer at the East of England Co-op, said: "We're really pleased to have opened our new Food store in East Bergholt. We've worked hard to ensure this relocation brings meaningful improvements, from a larger and more modern store with parking, to wider product ranges and extended Post Office hours. We've also invested in sustainability upgrades, including improved refrigeration and energy-efficient lighting.
"We're grateful for the continued support from the community and we hope this new store will become a valued service for years to come."
This is the third new Food store opened by the East of England Co-op this summer, following recent launches at Ipswich Station and Woodbridge Road in Ipswich. Store refurbishments have also been completed at Barham, Holbrook and Capel St Mary, with new sites coming to Thetford and Hellesdon in Norwich later this year.
The East of England Co-op is owned by its members and driven by a strong commitment to supporting local communities. The retailer has donated over £1 million to good causes in the last three years and is currently fundraising for more than 100 charities across East Anglia, including St Mary's Church in East Bergholt which supports the local food bank.
