East of England Co-op opens brand-new Food store and Travel branch in Hellesdon
Today (4 December) the East of England Co-op has opened its brand-new Food store in Hellesdon on Reepham Road. The new store, a relocation of the retailer's former Hellesdon store is larger, more modern and offers an extended product range, including an improved food-to-go offering. It also includes popular services such as the Post Office, which will now have opening hours that match the Food store.
The new store has moved to the site of the former Broadland Snooker Hall, along with all the store’s existing colleagues, including longstanding Branch Manager, David Fahy. Parish councillor, David, began working at the shop aged just 13, weighing potatoes in the back of house areas. After a period working at other co-op sites, David returned to the Hellesdon Food store as Branch Manager 21 years ago.
The regional retailer also opened their brand-new East of England Co-op Travel branch, situated inside the new Food store. This marks a significant milestone for the retailer as they continue to build on the success and growth of its Travel business.
Chief Executive Officer for the East of England Co-op, Andy Rigby said: “We’re delighted to provide the Hellesdon community with a first-in-class Food store. We’ve been here in Hellesdon for many years so to be able improve our offering to our members and customers in this area, is another example of us doing the right thing in the locations we serve.
“It’s also a standout moment to be able to bring our Travel business to Norfolk. Our Travel business has gone from strength to strength and we’re delighted to be able to extend our service to Hellesdon. I wish both David and Tracy our new branch managers all the best in their new home.”
Hellesdon becomes the regional retailer’s fourth new Food store in 2025, following new stores at East Bergholt, Ipswich Station and Woodbridge Road in Suffolk.
The new Hellesdon Food store is open 6am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 7am-10pm on Sundays. The Travel branch is open 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday.
The East of England Co-op is owned by its members and is driven by its commitment to providing the best services for local communities.
